So… my BattleTag is Hogger and I’d like to tell you the story of how this came to be.
Back when BattleTags were first being implemented, a friend asked me how to go about creating theirs. I navigated through the account page on the World of Warcraft website to instruct them and I noticed that I could change mine (it used to be Anakua - the name I am known by in-game). I clicked the button and saw there was a randomise option and I hit it a couple of times and laughed when I saw “Hogger”. Without thinking, I hit ACCEPT without a second thought so that I could get back to directing my friend.
After making sure they had successfully created their BattleTag, I then went back into my account settings to change mine back to Anakua and received the above message “You’ve already changed your BattleTag once. You cannot change it further at this time.”. Oh. Shit.
My guild was raiding at the time and all happened to be on Vent. Someone must have looked at their friends list because the next thing I knew, I had guildies messaging me telling me they were trying to work out who “Hogger” was and that it was making them all laugh.
And that is the tale of how I accidentally Gnoll’d myself.
